Independent Contractors

We believe that Company Drivers and ICs, working together, build a strong team and provide excellent service to our customers. However, ICs have different needs than our company drivers and therefore require different accommodations. To insure that our ICs are properly compensated and their needs properly addressed management maintains its open-door policy to ICs as well as company drivers. ICs are also included in our Driver Representative Program to insure their voice is heard.

Tandem is looking for ICs that meet our standards of excellence. All leased tractors must be 8 years old or newer and may be operated through the 10th year. All leased trailers must be able to scale 50,000 lbs.

Base pay is 82% of Gross Revenue with a 2-week holdback. Additional pays include:

Fuel Surcharge (100% of FSC)
Tolls (100%)*
Detention Pay (100%)*
Tarp Pay*
Hazmat Pay
Stop-off and Reconsignment Pay
Orientation Pay ($100/day)
IC Referral Program (UP to $1,000 per recruited referral)
Company Driver Referral Program (UP to $1,500 per recruited referral)

Tandem will supply the following:

Base Plate
Permits
Fuel and Mileage Taxes covered
Normal wear and tear on Tandem leased trailer
Tandem PL and PD (IC responsible for 1st $2,000)
Tandem Cargo Insurance (IC responsible for 1st $2,000)

IC will supply the following (unless otherwise contracted):

All accessorial equipment (including tarps)
IC own base plate (will receive addtional 1% of gross revenue)
Bobtail insurance with minimum $1,000,000 (insurance also available through Tandem)
IC own PL and PD policy for 1st $1,000,000 (will receive additional 3% of gross revenue)
IC own cargo insurance for 1st $35,000 (will recieve additional 1% of gross revenue)
Occupational/accident or Workmen's Compensation (also available through Tandem)
Scaling costs
Over-weight fines

Additional information:

Trailer Lease Program (based on availability of trailers)
Monthly inspections FREE if conducted at a Tandem terminal
Weekly settlements (after initial two-week holdback)
Direct Deposit available
Directed Dispatch (i.e., if choices of freight are available they are offered)

*These items are paid to the IC when the customer pays them as a separate line item.
